Acid Reflux in Kids

Acid reflux in babies is a common condition which causes more stress in parents than the suffering infants. It is a condition that the baby spits or vomits its feed. This problem arises when the food and acids in the stomach are throw back up in esophagus (The esophagus is a tube that combines mouth to the stomach). Mostly the infants experience this problem in first three months.

Symptoms of Acid Reflux in infants:-

Poor weight gain or rapid weight gain
Sour breath
Poor sleep
Frequent spitting
Heart burn
Persistent hiccups or cough
Sudden crying
Always wants to be held
Recurrent wheezing
Recurrent pneumonia

Causes of Acid Reflux in Babies:-

Acid reflux in infants is due to poor coordinated gastrointestinal track
Obesity is also one of the factor that leads to acid reflux in babies
Over eating is also another reason.

Home Remedies for Acid Reflux in Babies:-

Interrupting feedings to make the burp is considered as a useful remedy to avoid infant acid reflux.
Keeping the baby in upright during and after feeding treats as a good remedy
Try to make your baby sleep on the back or left side after feeding
Bury your baby thoroughly
Experiment with different bottles if the baby is a bottle feeder
Change your baby’s diaper before feeding
Avoid putting tight diapers to your baby
Avoid exposing your baby to cigar smoke, dust or other respiratory triggers
