What is Belching?

Belching (medically referred as eructation) is nothing but release of intestinal air through mouth with or without sound. This happens due to swallowing air when eating or drinking which happens very commonly. Burping is one way in which in excess air swallowed by body is removed. This very rarely seeks medical emergency. Very frequent belching accompanied with discomfort affecting daily routines needs medical attention.

Bloated stomach with abdominal pain.

 Causes of Belching

Swallowing air during eating, drinking may cause belching.
Sometime belching is caused by the type of food taken that produces gas like baked beans, raw fruits, veggies or drinking carbonated beverages (soda).
Indigestion may be other reason to burp quite frequently.
Eating and drinking too fast or talking while eating brings in more air in to the gastrointestinal tract causing to belch.
Peptic ulcers may lead to belching problems.
Habits like drinking alcohol, chewing gum, smoking is also reason for belching.
More lactose contents diet can cause ingestion and the bacteria breaks down thus producing gas.
Obesity also can be reason for more belching.

Remedies for Belching

Eat slowly, eat at regular intervals avoid starving for long time.
Avoid chewing gum, drinking carbonated beverages, alcohol and smoking.
Avoid food that produces more gas which causes belching.
Asafetida is a good home remedy for relieving from excess belching.
Regular exercise and reduce the stress is also another remedy for belching.
Mint is one of best home remedy for excessive burping.
