Cataract

Cataract is the most common cause of vision impairment and blindness in the world. Cataract may originate in various different locations in the lens. Its onset may be in the middle of the lens, on the side or in other positions. Cataract usually starts out in the middle of the lens, in which case it is referred to as nuclear cataract. Cataracts cause the lenses of the eye to become cloudy. Cataract surgery restores vision in eyes that have been affected by cataracts.



Symptoms of Cataract:

Commonly the symptoms of cataract are

double vision,
sensitivity to light,
the need for more light when reading,
diminished night vision,
changed prescription power for glasses,
dimming and fading of colors
Causes of Cataract:

The causes of Cataracts include:

Alcoholism or heavy alcohol ingestion.
Diabetes.
Exposure to radiation.
Increasing age (over 40 years).
Injury to the eye.
Overexposure to ultraviolet (UV) light from sunlight.
Smoking.
Diabetes.
Deficiency of vitamin A or B.
Improper life styles.
Stress as well as strain.
Excessive use of the eyes causes the lens to become weak.

Home Remedies for Cataract:                            

Plenty of carrot should be consumed daily. Alternative to eating raw carrot, take carrot juice twice daily. This will not give a complete relief but would help.
Garlic cleanses the crystalline lens of the eye. For best results chew 2-3 cloves of garlic daily.
Six grams of aniseed could be taken daily in the morning and evening for fast relief.
Mixture of brown sugar, coriander powder and aniseed is beneficial in treatment of Cataract. 12 grams of the mixture should be taken during morning and evening.
Avoid exposure to bright light and heat if you are suffering from the disease.
Grapes and oranges also help in the healing process of the cataract. Begin the diet with these fruits.
Use sunglasses to protect the eyes from direct rays of the sun.
One must rest the eyes regularly.
Soaked dates, raisins and figs are a good natural remedy for cataract.
Refined cereals, potatoes, breads, strong tea, refined cereals, alcohol, coffee, pickles, smoking, sauces, pickles and junk foods need to be avoided.

Prevention of Cataract:

There is no proven way to prevent cataracts. But certain lifestyle habits may help slow cataract development. They are by not smoking, by wearing a hat or sunglasses when you are in the sun, by avoiding sunlamps and tanning booths, eating a diet rich in vitamins C and E, by limiting your alcohol intake, by avoiding the use of steroid medicines when possible and by keeping diabetes under control.
