Home Remedies for a Sore Throat

Need home remedies for your sore throat? If you’re tired of taking chemicals to get rid of your sore throat there are many things you can use at home to reduce or eliminate your sore throat completely.

Tea and Honey

Tea can help relax your sore throat and soothe the irritation. The honey also works well for reducing a sore throat. This is why you see so many sore throat medications containing honey. Try to drink several cups of hot teat throughout the day with honey if you have a sore throat.

Hard Alcohol

Sipping on a bit of whiskey or other hard alcohol can actually help to reduce your sore throat. Many medications contain alcohol and the alcohol helps to numb and dull pain in the throat and reduce the inflammation you have from the sore throat. Make sure you just sip the alcohol slowly over a period of about a half hour and don’t mix it with anything you want to just use hard alcohol. A whiskey seems to work the best but any hard alcohol will do. This is obviously an adult’s only remedy.

Saltwater Gargle

Adding some salt water to a glass of warm water can work wonders for a sore throat. You can also try baking soda instead of plain salt. You should gargle about half a glass of warm water and salts until the glass is empty and this should give you relief from your sore throat.

Honey

Plain honey is great for a sore throat as it has antibacterial properties and goes down good for children. This is a better solution than medication and often the honey is enough to eliminate or reduce the sore throat. A small spoonful of this every so often will reduce sore throat symptoms. The best honey is liquid honey not the hard tub type of honey.

Lemon

Lemon is another ingredient in many sore throat medications and it will work well for a sore throat you can add this to your tea and drink that or you can make lemonade by squeezing lemon juice into water and drinking that. You might want to warm the water up and drink it that way. You can also use lime juice if you want as an alternative. Orange juice and even tomato juice will also help soothe your throat due to the acid and the vitamin C content.

Water and Liquids

Make sure you drink lots of fluids if you have a sore throat as this can reduce the symptoms and make your throat feel better. Try to drink water every couple of hours or as you need it or have juices to cool your throat.  A little bit of ice cream can also help a sore throat too.

Garlic

Another ingredient you should eat when you have a sore throat tis garlic. Garlic has antibacterial properties and this can help to heal your sore throat. If you can tolerate it, try sucking on a piece of garlic like a cough drop as this is can help heal a sore throat or just eat more foods with garlic when you have a sore throat.
