If you’re open to learning how to increase your chances of getting pregnant, read on.

You might be happy to learn that we focus on natural remedies, as they can often help you avoid the costly medical fertility route.

We also recognize that some people don’t believe in holistic remedies, but it’s worth your time to look into the ‘other’ side of medicine before spending tens of thousands on medical fertility or adoption, right?

How to Increase Your Chances of Getting Pregnant

In this write-up, we’ll discuss some of the typical obstacles people encounter, and then we’ll suggest solutions that can help you overcome them.

Obstacle 1: Not having sex often enough

Are you one of the couples who would like to get pregnant, but then don’t concentrate on it as much as you’d originally intended? If so, I know this may feel embarrassing, but it’s really a normal situation. Careers, commutes and family commitments can get in the way of regular sex — especially pre-planned sex, which may feel mechanical.

Another way you might get sidetracked, is by having sex ‘around’ the time that ovulation should occur, rather than pinpointing the exact time. Totally understandable – just something to follow closely so you can get pregnant more quickly!

Solution: Have sex more often!

It’s tough, but someone’s gotta do it! Give yourself enough time around your fertility window (5-7 days around mid-cycle, or ovulation)  – and have sex 2-3 times or so. For the rest of the month it’s okay to allow sex to be more spontaneous, but not during this time.

Obstacle 2: Using a less than optimal position during sex.
Like sexual irregularity, sexual position is often overlooked –yet can make all the difference. As you know by now, simply having sex doesn’t guarantee a baby, right?

Solution: Have sex in this position:

You guessed it — the missionary position is your best bet.

Better yet, tuck a pillow under your bottom to help create upward tilt. To really spice it up, use a menstrual cup after sex, which will help hold the seminal fluid inside you.

Obstacle 3: Your hormones are out of sync.
As you may know, imbalanced hormones can be caused by a number of factors, but a big one is body weight. Both overweight and underweight messes with your hormones, which means you’ve lowered your chances of getting pregnant.

Solution: Have your hormone levels checked

First, make sure to talk to your doctor about possible causes of hormone imbalance and ask about ways to get them back in sync.

Once you’ve checked in with your doc, do your best to get to or near your ideal weight. Your diet plays a major factor in your hormone levels and is one of the major ways of impacting your chances of getting pregnant!

Obstacle 5: Your body isn’t ready to get pregnant.

This one surprises people, as lots of women get pregnant when they’re not in perfect health, right?  That’s true, yet, many women are now having children in our 30′s or 40′s. If you’re over 25 or 30, this means your body may need a little coaxing into pregnancy.

Here’s what I mean by being ready to get pregnant. It means that your body isn’t optimally healthy, which is often cause by lifestyle choices such as lack of exercise, poor diet, and even simple nutritional deficiency. And smoking, excess alcohol, and caffeine consumption just make matters worse. You may look fine, but a single nutritional deficiency can throw everything off!

Solution:  Improve your health habits.

I know, making dietary or other lifestyle changes can be overwhelming when you’re already trying to get pregnant. That’s okay, keep it simple and focus on one thing – like quitting smoking, cutting back on sugar, or eating more veggies – and that might make all the difference.

You can also talk to your doctor or naturopath, who can help you decide what to focus on first. A single, 1 hour visit is super helpful. Plus he or she may help you out with a few, key vitamins that make a positive impact!

And remember, a healthy body is important for your pregnancy, delivery and baby, too.

Obstacle 6: Your partner’s body isn’t ready.
This just means your partner’s lifestyle might be negatively impacting his ability to produce enough semen, or high enough quality. A few small changes can help his sperm count – such as avoiding hot showers, or any heat around the scrotum. His overall health can impact his ability to produce healthy sperm, too.

Solution: Support his sperm enhancement!

Cooler showers, looser fitting underwear, healthier diet, and so on can help him to start. Also, if he’s a heavy smoker this is a good time to quit. It’s a great idea to have him simply join your health and dietary efforts efforts.

Obstacle 7: Stress is hurting you.

Are you busy with careers, school, and a social life? If so, it’s  natural to feel some stress –  especially when planning a major lifestyle choice like having a baby. Just remember that stress produces cortisol – which is called the stress hormone. This hormone can impact all types of body functioning negatively.

Solution: Think about your priorities.

This isn’t a judgment…instead it’s intended to remind you about self-care. Stress can make or break your chances of getting pregnant. If you’ve been on the go a lot, you’ll want to balance your pace once you get pregnant, anyway, right?

This is an important time — your time! So focus on what’s most important to you and your future baby, and let the small stuff go. It’s important to make room in your calendar for down time, which will help you feel more balanced and peaceful, while increasing your chances of getting pregnant.

These ideas should get you thinking about how to increase your changes of getting pregnant. If you follow even just a few of them, you might find yourself expecting a baby before you know it!
