Herbal Treatments for Bee Stings

During the summer everyone wants to be outside. However, by exposing ourselves to the outdoor we also may encounter the painful string of a bee. Most will go out to the nearest drug store and purchase some medication, but her are some simple treatments that may save your summer.

Papaya 

This is a tropical fruit and it can be applied to the sting as a home remedy. It is important to remove the stringer as soon as possible, you will want to be careful not to break the stringer and leave some buried in the skin.

To use the papaya you will want to make sure it is fresh and just rub it directly on the wound. Any type will work, but the unripe green papaya has the most concentration of the effective ingredient, which is an enzyme called papain that lessons the effect of the venom by breaking down the proteins.

Vinegar Paste 

This is an easy to make paste, you will just mix vinegar, meat tenderizer, and baking soda.

You combine equal parts of all three ingredients and apply to the string and leave on as long as you desire. This works because baking soda is known as a soothing agent, the vinegar neutralizes the venom, and the meat tenderizer contains the enzymes papain, which is in papayas and lessons the venom’s effect.

Honey 

This is a time test and proven remedy for bee stings. The honey provides temporary pain relief and promotes faster healing of the wound. After applying the honey, it would be advised to also add a light dressing such as gauze if you have it on hand. The honey acts as a topical treatment because it has antibacterial properties and also contains hydrogen peroxide, discontinue use if any rash or irritation results.

This is the easiest and most accessible home remedies for bee sting treatment. The toothpaste contains glycerin which will dry out the venom; it is also an alkaline substance which will neutralize the venom. Ice is also an effective remedy. Just apply directly to the area for 10-20 minutes. The ice will numb the pain and cool the skin; which slows cool flow and reduces swelling. You will need to wait 15 minutes between applications.
